2-09-09

I thought I would reblog the announcement I made to the blogging world when the boys were born.

Feb. 09, 2009

Killian and Beck decided to burst the bubble and enter this world a little early. It was an interesting evening that went something like this…

12:00AM Monday morning

Michelle: Oh no! (Runs to bathroom)

Kirt: Are you okay? (Such amazing detective questioning)

Michelle: I think my water broke

Kirt: You think your water broke? (Sherlock Holmes has nothing on me)

Michelle: What are we supposed to do when that happens?

Kirt: Hang on, I’m getting the book (Walks slowly into other room to get book)

Kirt: Are you having contractions?

Michelle: No

Kirt: Okay (Gets into bed, covers up, and begins to search the book

Michelle: Now my back is starting to hurt

Kirt: Oh, here it is, “if your water breaks you should immediately” um, oh my, we need to leave!

12:10 AM Kirt trying to locate pants, even though he has a closet full of them he can’t find a pair to put on

12:15 AM Can’t find Michelle in house. How can someone with twins hide in a 1,600 square foot home?

Michelle: Do you think I need to take my bag?

Kirt: Nope, you are not quite at 35 weeks yet, they won’t keep you. Don’t worry about it. (Stupid, stupid, stupid)

12:20 AM Enter freeway

12:25 AM Exit freeway - That part was fun

12:35 AM Michelle getting hooked up to everything NASA has to offer

2:00AM Kirt is back at home to get everything they should have taken with them to begin with

3:59AM Kirt decides to eat something really spicy from the snack bar (I am so impressive under duress)

4:00 AM Contraction monitor gets hooked up correctly as opposed to the way it was earlier in the morning. Nurses call the doctor

4:30 AM Kirt dons astronaut gear for the OR

4:31 AM Kirt’s stomach decides speak up on the matter of the spicy breakfast. I think my stomach was democrat and voted for the “stimulus” package L

4:32 AM Kirt decides rubber bands might be needed on bottom of pant leg openings in case he can’t get out of NASA suit fast enough

5:00AM Enter OR only after watching nurses run Michelle’s bed into the wall twice

5:32AM Beck enters the world. Kirt tries to describe to Michelle what he is seeing through tear streaked eyes, but all she can understand is cry, cry, cry, sob, Beck

5:33AM Killian also enters the world. Kirt doesn’t even try to describe anything since he knows that will only serve to emasculate him further.  But is scared since Killian is blue and not crying.

Beck weighed in at 4 pounds 14 ounces and 17.5 inches long. He has blond hair.

Killian weighed in at 4 pounds 12 ounces and 17.5 inches long. He has brown hair.

Killian spent most of the morning and part of the afternoon in NICU hooked up to oxygen. Later in the day he joined the rest of the family in a room built for people with only one baby.

The babies were born at 34 weeks and 5 days. Because they are small, their feeding takes about 3 minutes and occurs about every hour. Both babies are able to hold their correct temperature and they should come home with us when we bring Michelle home.
I will forever remember that just like it was yesterday.  Okay, maybe I will remember it better than yesterday, since at times, I'm not even sure what day it is.

These two are so funny

Visitation seems to get better with each visit.  Both boys are excited to see me.  Beck usually says, "Daddy I was waiting for you in the window."  They pick where we are going to go.  Which usually ends up being McDonalds in East Bay or McDonalds in Spanish Fork for about an hour.  They only eat apple slices and drink Sprite.  They mostly want to play in the play land.  Then they say they want to go to "Daddy house"

While we were out at McDonald's, Beck came and sat down next to me and wanted his drink.  I gave it to him and then started rubbing his back.  Beck puts his drink down, turns and uses both his hands to take my hand and place it on the chair back behind him.  He then turned back around and started drinking his drink again.  Apparently he didn't want affection at that time.  Killian loves me to rub his back or belly or shoulder anytime.  Two very different children.   Killian ran up to another guy wearing jeans and grabbed the napkin out of the guys hand.  I shouted over to Killian, hey I'm over here.  Killian looks at me.  I said that's the wrong Daddy.  Killian throws the napkin at the guy and runs and jumps into my arms.  When I lift him up he is laughing, and he says, " that the wrong Daddy".  Later we ran into the guy again and Killian pointed again, "there the wrong Daddy".

Killian came up with a game where I had to follow the two of them around picking up the balls that shot out of Thomas the Train.  To him the balls were "gas" for Thomas to go.  The typical conversation each time he ran out would go as follows...
Killian:  Oh no, I'm out of gas
Me:  Oh no, I give you gas
Killian:  (After we had filled it up with balls) Thank you gasser helper!
And we would drive away.  I would laugh every time.

Another game that the boys now really like is laying in the inflatable pool I have for them.  They pretend to be asleep.  I then swing the pool around with them inside it until they flip out or crash into one another.  They really like that game.  I get really dizzy and fall over a lot while playing it.

Me:  Come here and let me change your diaper.
Beck:  I didn't poop.
Me:  I need to change it so it stays dry.
*Daddy changes said diaper and does a terrible job apparently*
Beck:  My diaper hurts me.  (grabs his bum)
Daddy:  Okay, lay back down and I will fix it
*Daddy changes said diaper again*
Me:  Is that better?
Beck:  Yeah.  My diaper was on wonky.  It's okay now.

Beck:  There's the mall
Me:  Yep, that's the mall
Beck:  You can't come with us there Daddy
Me:  How come Daddy can't come with you?  (starting to get offended)
Beck:  Cause you are at work!  Silly Daddy

We played so hard this time that I was actually sweating from trying to swing two boys around for three hours.  It made my day!  I'll post some pictures and video of our adventure.

Part of the Daddy shoulder work out

Another game of try and not let Daddy put our socks on

We were playing tug O war with Killian in the pool.  Beck lost.

Daddy way too dizzy, fell down

Killian being a tough guy.  Pulling me down to his level.

The two of them pretending to be asleep before I spin them.

Yay two visits in a row

Beck came down the walkway this morning with his face buried in his blanket.  My heart sank thinking this was going to be a rough visitation day (Beck hides his face when he is trying to shut you out).  When I got close, Beck pulled the blanket down and roared like a dinosaur and then smiled.  Yay, it was going to be a good day.  Things the last two visits have gone really well.  Both boys ask if they can come back to play later when I tell them it's time to go.  Beck still has moments where he wants to be left alone and goes to a room to play by himself.  Eventually, he comes back to join the group.  I try to give him his space during this time, although it is really hard to not play with him during this time when I know that I have precious few hours with him.   The boys have stopped eating anything when they are with me.  We now are too busy playing monsters, or wrestling, or Daddy chase me games to eat.  I haven't even had time to take pictures we are playing so much.  It is painful to me to miss some of the photo ops.  But I would rather be very present with them, rather than behind the camera.  Beck decided he wanted to take a nap I guess, so he took his ride on Thomas and lifted it into the inflatable pool filled with styrofoam blocks.  Got himself comfortable and put his arm around Thomas.  Really wish I would have taken a picture of that.  At least things are improving and I don't feel like I have to try so hard to get Beck to come over.

Funny conversations...

Daddy: Killian, did you poop?  Let me check your diaper.
Killian:  Any poop?
Daddy: Nope.  No poop.
Killian:  That is 'cause the poop is still in my butt.

Beck (later after we get in the truck to go home):  Ewww.  It stinks in here.
Daddy:  It does?  What does it smell like?
Beck: Killian's poop.

Beck:  My sucker is blue like Thomas
Killian: My sucker is red like Thomas
Beck: Thomas is not red.  He is blue.
Killian: My sucker is brown like Thomas

Beck: Daddy I wanna do stickers
Daddy (gets out sticker book):  Which sticker do you want?
Beck: I want the Brachiosaurus
Daddy: The what?
Beck: That one (points)
He's not three yet.  Guess I need to further my education to I can do stickers with the two year old.
