Running in Place

I am sorry about the delay in blogging.  My goal had been to write as soon as the boys left each time.  My emotions are usually all over the place after they leave and that makes it really tough to focus on my writing.  I start out excited that they were happy, then become sad because they don't live with me and I won't get to see them for awhile.  Then I think of something they said that made me laugh, like Beck following me into the bathroom and saying, "poopin'?" before I even get one step in the bathroom.  I tell him that I am blowing my nose.  He watches really intently at me blowing my nose.  Then walks out of the bathroom trying to make the noises of blowing his nose.   So I'm afraid it is going to be very hit and miss with the blog.
I picked the boys up in the afternoon on Monday.  The boys were so excited to go today that Killian was running in place at the gate before I could even get out of the truck.  Madame X asked me if I would try feeding them as they had not had much for lunch.  So off we went to McDonalds for fries.  Beck as we drive now has to yell out if we are going "up hill, up hill, up hill" or "dow hill, dow hill, dow hill".  He used to not speak much, but that kid is always talking now.  When we pulled up to the drive through, Beck started yelling "coke *pause* coke *pause* coke?"  I got a medium fry thinking that I could have some as well.  Nope.  The boys ate the entire thing before we even got to Mom's house.
The boys are still into blowing up balloons and letting them go and watching them fly around the house.  We do this after they have rolled the ball down the stairs, and then knocked over anything standing.  While I was blowing up Beck's balloon it popped.  He stood there like he wasn't sure if he was supposed to cry or not.  So I started rubbing his back and telling him it was okay, the balloon just popped.  He looked at me with a very serious look and said, "bwoten (broken), pop, scawy (scary)." And then he went and picked a new balloon.
Shortly after arriving, Beck wanted noodles.  Both boys like to watch the noodles prepared and help in anyway they can.  They have to get the Ramen package out of the pantry, thus knocking over everything else to get to the noodles. Then carry it over to the stove.  I have to have bar stools near the stove so they can watch the water boil.  The boys also have to each take a turn biting the uncooked Ramen and then say Yucky!  Then they sit at the bar while I'm cutting the noodles up and tell me everything that I am doing and using, "cuttin', buttew, knife, foke, poon, stiw (stir)."  Today they tried feeding themselves.  That went okay as long as I held the bowl below their faces. After they finished eating they made sure they touched every square inch of the television screen with their buttery hands.  That was awesome!
At four I asked the boys if they wanted to go home.  Beck said, "no, stay daddy how, daddy tuck *points out the window* I wide in it.  Killians response, "I stay too, I stay too".  Simple things like that just make my day.  I am not sure however, what has changed to make it so they don't want to come home when just a week ago I couldn't get them to be in the same room with me.  I will take what I can get.  They seem to have grown each time I see them.

Video Update

I learned a valuable lesson with this one.  I commented on Beck having a flag.  Well then Killian wanted a flag ,because he had not thought to steal one when we were on the other side of the church.  It took forever to talk him out of going to the other side of the church again.

I tried to get Beck to say deer poop for the camera.  Naturally, he says it a million times until I get the camera out.  He kept going back to deer poop he found at the church and saying eeewww, deer poop.  Then he would point at it.

Again, as soon as the camera comes on, he stops.  Killian wanted my phone to carry around.  He just kept saying, "Hello?"  Then he would look at the phone, and ask the question again like he expected someone to be on the other end.

It is safe to dig every where at the church, just not in this snow bank.

Yes, I think my kids are cute enough to post a video of them doing nothing else but throwing pine cones

I am posting this one because I am excited that Beck has finally figured out how to jump.  In past he squats down and then straightens his legs out really fast without ever leaving the ground.  He was a prisoner of gravity until today.

I am also glad Beck now climbs through the holes under the stairs on his own.  He used to want help to go through.  He didn't need it, he just felt safer that way.  Saturday was the first time he started going back and forth on his own.  He was apparently very excited about this as evident by him telling Killian go go go go.

Watch for Killian to just run through the frame.  He is always in a hurry to get somewhere.

A nice Saturday

On Saturday the 8th I picked up the boys.  Both were eager to go.  They went nuts at the house.  Both were full of energy.  I will post some video of their visit.  I was a happy version of dead by the time they left.  As I remember the funny stories and conversations I will post them.  Both boys were playing in the bathroom.  Mom went in there to watch them play, well the only chair in the bathroom is the toilet.  As soon as Mom sat down, Beck looked at her and said, "Poopin?"  He then kept looking at Mom and then back at the toilet.  We were both in hysterics.  We walked over to the church to explore.  The neighbors dog was barking.  Mom asked Beck if he wanted to see the doggy.  Becks response, "No, (looks at the ground) doggy too loud."  The boys went to an area where it looks like they will be doing some digging.  Both boys proceeded to take every flag out of the ground that said danger cable below and placed them in the nearest snow bank.  Beck even tried to bring one home.  Beck walked past deer poop in the church parking lot and kept saying, ew, deew poop.  He even had to go back and find it to say it all over again.  The boys again did not want to leave.  I loved it.

New hats
When contruction workers come to dig, they will only have to worry about one snow bank

The mind of a two year old

Some day I will be able to ask Beck what his obsession is with this spot on the carpet.  The spot is wood glue that I did not notice until after it had dried.  Every time Beck comes over he lays down by it and looks at it.  He has thrown balls at it, scraped a hockey stick across it.  He has scratched at it with his fingers.  It is one of the first things that he looks at.  I wish that I could hear what he is thinking when he is looking at this.
I am also posting before and after pictures of the type of destruction Killian poses when he enters your house.  It takes me about ten minutes to clean up if I only have Beck.  It takes about an hour when Killian is added to the mix.  I'm usually looking under furniture after to see what is now hiding under there.

Finally

My apologies to the two readers of the blog for my lack of posting lately.  I had just enough money to purchase a train ticket on the bitter express, so I rode that train for awhile.  Eventually they kicked me off that train, so I took solace on the overly emotional train.  I heard that train had a good buffet.
Here is why I was riding the bitter train...Saturday the 19th, neither boy wanted to go with me.  Madame X suggested I come in and talk to them.  I played with Beck for a bit since he was the only one that would come near me.  After a few minutes Beck decided he wanted to go.  We got his shoes and coat on, and I picked him up.  He started saying rather loudly, "ow, hurt, ow, hurt, ow".  So I put him on my other hip and he said he wanted down.  I put him down and he said, "no go, no go" and then went over and picked up a book.  I knelt down beside him and said, "don't you want to go with Daddy.  No, was his reply.  I think I made him change his mind when I picked him up when he was sore.  Beck's x-ray's came back normal, so the doctor thinks it is just growing pains.  I can remember how growing hurt me when I was much much younger.  I am sorry he will endure that as well.  Now that I am older, my growing is much more enjoyable as I eat Wendy's and change my shape to round.  At least Beck's hip bones weren't decaying in the socket like we had thought.  I walked away empty handed unsure how I was going to bribe the boys into liking me.
On Saturday the 26th, when I arrived Beck was already dressed and peeking his head out the door.  When I got up to the porch he was saying, "I go, I go, I go" like I was going to leave him behind.  I told him that I wanted to talk to Killian for a minute then we would go.  Killian would not let me get anywhere near him.  He was crying and running around trying to make sure he had maximum distance between him and I.  He ran and grabbed his mother's hand saying, "ta mon mommy!"  She wouldn't go with him.  His Mommy explained that he needed to talk to Daddy for a minute.  Then she explained that he was this way with everyone right now.  Well I'm not everyone, I'm his dad.  And him not letting me anywhere near him was breaking me inside.  I finally gave up with Killian and told Beck it was time to go.  Beck said in a quiet voice, "noooooo" like he was very disinterested in me suddenly.  Beck had changed his mind and wasn't going to go.  Killian walked out of the room and Beck followed.  I shrugged my shoulders and began the lonely walk of shame back to the truck.  I was at a loss.
Monday the 28th, Madame X sent me a text that I was going to have to come in to talk to the boys, as neither of them would get dressed to go with Daddy.  As I walked up the steps I could see two cute little boys sitting on the couch looking out the window.  I ran to the window and waved.  Killian laughed.  So I started to play peek a boo outside the window.  Each time I popped my head around the corner, they laughed a little more.  I was freezing outside, but I was going to keep making them laugh.  Eventually when I lost all bodily control and started suffering from stage three hypothermia, I went in and sat down next to Killain.  Killian started saying, "no...go owside.  Go owside" and pointing.  I suggested we read a book instead.  Beck wouldn't come anywhere near me.  Beck did want to show me all the places he could climb, but would not approach me.  Killian brought over a construction book and started telling me what all the pictures were.  Beck eventually started doing the same thing.  Beck got bored of that after a minute and started trying to show off.  He fell and started to cry.  I thought to myself, well this is it.  One twin crying leads to two, which leads to Daddy crying on a drive home.  Killian kept reading and eventually Beck started leaning on my leg and looking at the book.  I kept asking Killian, don't you want to play at Daddy's house?  Don't you want to read at Daddy's house?  Killian ignored the questions.  I even volunteered to let him play on the little trampoline that I do not like him to play with, trying anything I could to get him over to my house.  If he would have continued to say no, I was prepared to start letting him play with matches, fire, paint, guns.  Anything!  Killian asked me, "tan we wo the ball?  (translation:  can we roll the exercise ball down the stairs destroying everything in it's path?)  I told him you bet!  He ran into the other room to get his shoes.  Beck didn't want to be left behind.  So I went from having zero boys to having both of them.  I was ecstatic!
We played with balloon's.  I made the mistake of blowing up a balloon and letting them hold it and let it fly away.  Beck thought that was so cool.  I didn't think about how I would feel after blowing up balloons for an hour.  Killian destroyed, knocked over, everything he could.  Both boys were very interactive with me.  I loved it.  I had hoped Killian would forget about the tramp, but alas, he did not.  So I set it close to the couch thinking it would prevent them from falling.  I didn't think about them jumping from the couch onto the tramp, diving head first onto the tramp.  I have no idea where that daring gene came from.  I have always been so conservative and mellow.  They jumped off boxes, slid down the stairs, threw stuff down the stairs.  I laughed and had so much fun.  Although, twins for FOUR HOURS really wore me out.
Earlier I had decided that I would take the boys home after an hour and a half so they would feel like they had fun.  I didn't want them to ask for Mommy, or feel the need to ask to go home.  I wanted them to get home and just remember how much fun the had.  Here was the first conversation...
Me:  Beck come here and let me put your shoes on so we can go back home.
Beck: (running away from me) nnnnnnooooooooo Daddy's how! (house)

The conversation thirty minutes later...
Me: Killian come here and let me put your shoes on so we can go back home
Killian: NO! (hits me in the head with a hockey stick and laughs)

The conversation an hour later...
Me: Killian come here and let me put your shoes on so we can go back home
Beck: No, Daddy howse! (slaps leg)
Killian:  Noodles?

So I made them noodles and we ate Ramen and watched Cars.  I knew it was time for Beck to go down for a nap, but I was having zero luck at getting them to want to go home.  Finally I put Beck's stuff on while he was watching Cars and that did the trick.  Both boys ran and grabbed a few toys saying, "take, take, take".  Until I told them that they could take the toys.
I drove home happier than I had been in weeks.  When the boys want to come with me, I feel that all is right with the world.  Until I get home and realize what I have to clean up.  Sometimes I think it would be easier to sell the home fully furnished and just buy a new place.  Crossing my fingers for tomorrow!

Wherefore Art Thou Killian?

My heart always races when I drive up the street to the boys house.  I never know if I am going to get them or not.  I never know who I am going to run into when I am there.  I wonder if Madame X would just tell Beck and Killian to walk down the street until they see me.  That's okay for two year olds to do right?
I pulled up and put the truck in park, took a deep breath, and looked to my right.  I exhaled and smiled when I saw that Beck was in hat and coat trying to push the door open.  That warmed my heart.  I walked up to the door and he came out jabbering about something I wasn't really listening to because I was focused on the fact that Killian was already crying.  Snot was running down his face and he was saying Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, while clinging to Madame X.  I picked up Beck and asked Killian if he wanted to come to my house to play with balloons.  He nodded his head yes, and Madame X said that she wasn't coming to Daddy's house so he would have to go with me.  That started the entire Mommy thing again.  So I walked down the walkway to the truck and loaded Beck in his car seat.  Madame X followed trying to talk to Killian about Beck leaving to come with me.  Killian does not like to be seperated from his brother.  After loading Beck, I walked back around the truck and held my arms open and said come here buddy to Killian.  He recoiled away from me just like the girls in high school did, trying to get as much distance as possible between the two of us.  I shrugged my shoulders and got back in the truck.  He clearly was not coming with me today.  At least fifty percent of my children were coming with me.
Beck started telling me the play by play that was taking place in Finding Nemo as I drove.  I was so glad that Beck had gotten over whatever initially was making him afraid to leave his house to come with me.  I was looking forward to being able to focus on one child.  Beck acted very attached to me finally.  I felt like a Dad instead of a baby sitter!  We played with trains, trucks, balls, and tinker toys.  Beck is quite adept at putting together tinker toys.  Beck read with grandma, and then changed to reading with me.  We watched very little of Cars!  When we did watch Cars, Beck insisted Killian's chair be placed next to his, even though it was empty.  Saturday was all about spending time with one another.  I loved it!  We had a new game of filling cups with water in the sink, then dumping them out and stacking them.  Only to take them down again to be filled with water.  His speech improves at such a rapid rate it makes my head spin.  Beck only wanted to leave my house because he wanted to take a nap, and he wanted to nap in his own bed.  The last two times Beck has left he wants to take two toys with him.  He is always thinking of Killian.  When Beck leaves now he picks up two items and then starts walking towards the stairs and saying "take, take, take" until I give in and let him take whatever he wants.  I probably would let him drive home if he knew how to ask me for that.
It was the twins birthday's on Wednesday the ninth.  They also had their two year checkup last week.  Beck weighs 26.6 pounds and is 35 inches long.  Killian is 25.8 pounds and is 34.5 inches long.  That is a lot bigger than the 4.14 pounds and 17.5 inches long when they were born.  Beck has complained that his hips and knees hurt him at times so he is going in for x-rays to check for something called Perthes disease (his cousin has been diagnosed with it).  That illness is where the top of your leg bone disintegrates from the hip joint.  The bone eventually grows back as the child get older.  I am currently praying, crossing fingers, and sacrificing goats that the pain he is feeling is just from growing.  I can remember as I grew how it hurt me.  There were times that I felt like my bones were stretching so fast I was a human Gumby toy.  I will keep everybody posted on how his x-rays turn out.  Here's to hoping Killian comes with us tomorrow morning when I go to pick them up.

I know there is a ball in here somewhere

Seriously, where is the ball?

Oh, there is where all the balls are

Loves to knock over blocks

Where did the blocks go?

I love that smile!

Getting ready to be tossed in the air

Can I play in the water please Daddy?

Is this cup made of real plastic?

He was about to fall alseep

I think maybe Daddy was having more fun than Beck

Trying to protect himself from me making the dinosaur get him

We read this book about ten times in a row

I love to hear him laugh

We started playing a game where Beck would tell me he wanted an "otta pop" and I would tickle him.  I have been told that I should market this video as a way for people to get in shape.  My abs were on fire the entire time playing this game.  But I LOVED to hear him laugh!
